GM Robert Atkinson was fired after his Fingers "participated" only one season in the RHL. A combination of lack of passion and the fact that he tried to illegally move his franchise to Banff Alberta, which violates league territorial rules, ultimately spelled the demise of the Hiawatha Fingers.

Robert Atkinson has been offered an expansion spot this season as the RHL expands to 14 teams. He has been on the waiting list ever since the day of his removal. For 2010-11, he will ice his team under the new name of the Kent's Bay Carp.

The Hiawatha Fingers finished their first and only season with 148 points which was only 2 points shy of making the playoffs, they were edged out by the Barrie Nordiques, who would eventually go on to win the RHL Cup that year. Meanwhile, the Fingers had a disappointing consolation semi final round, and were defeated by the Gougers to finish in 9th place overall.

This year, We should expect to see a much better effort from the Carp in a very difficult league. Not only does the GM hold a grudge against the commissioners for his dismissal, he has something to prove this year. Look for The Carp to draft gritty, tough and obscure forwards with a European scoring defence. He will no doubt take some chances on some sleepers and round it all out with safe solid goaltending. We will no doubt see them battle to a playoff berth, but also, we all can look forward to some fierce battles against his divisional rivals the Alliston 93 Leafs. the Leafs were awarded the Fingers franchise after another failed year in Vancouver under new management. Can GM Rob Atkinson prove us wrong for letting him go and defeat his replacement in the process?

INTERESTING FACT: This Franchise has seen three different GM's and four different team names during it's existence. the only GM to take this team to the playoffs was Darryl Newcombe of the 93 Leafs in 2008-09. That same year, they went on to win the RHL Cup.
